Has anybody ever did anything with a John Deer 730? What is the lowest weight class possiable for them? What is possiable for Horse POWER?

If you are going to pull one make sure it has the slow 1st gear these tractors had different gear ratios available if you get one that has the faster low gear you will run into a power problem as you are going to run in the heavier classes with these tractors the lighest I have seen one in my area that is still stock is 7500lb. that was with roll o matic no fenders no rockshaft arms no step and about 1 gallon fuel and driver that weighed about 180

With pressed wheels, no fenders, and a narrow front, I'd think 6500 could be gotten fairly easily. As for the modifications,it's your tractor, but I'd leave it like it is. Good 730's will be worth money someday. Heck they've already doubled in value since the early 90's. Just use low gear in 7500, and up with a rollamatic front, and have fun. If you want to butcher something get an old G, and bore and stroke to your hearts content, and noone will care or cry, but a 730.. now thats a farm tractor. Later Greg H.

The 730 I have now with 3-point, pony, square wide weighs 8400# with me. Last year I had a 730 direct start, square wide, and if I took the 3-point off and didn't fill the fuel tank I could get it under 8,000#. Gas burners are lighter and a narrow front is also lighter. Don't know about horsepower but they are low geared - always ran out of tracton before power in first.

There is a fellow around here with a beaten looking 730D electric start adjustable wide rowcrop & 18.4x38 Firestones. He always goes home placing in the top three of the 8000,10,000 & 12,000 lb class. Has the tires short & sharp, puts her in low gear for the two heavy classes & he finaly stops way down at the far end of the track.
