I haven't been around them much, but I agree with cubage. With those big ports and valves and stock or near-stock displacement, you give up a lot of intake velocity and cylinder-filling ability, which will actually cost you power and especially lugging ability and low-end torque. And there are lots of other ways to build compression besides using a flat head.

you need big big cubes to ever take advantage of it. it's flat so you gain some compression over a styled head, it's already got huge ports and valves so no work is really necessary there, and I believe you have the option of getting one with or without tapped holes to move your spark plugs into it and out of the block. I seriously wouldn't consider it unless you were maybe 500+ cubes.
