I am working on 1949 G it ran fine I put a pentronix ignition on it new autolite 386 plugs cleaned the oil bath air cleaner and put a new govner spring on from mother deere.I put a strait stack on to It now stumbles on a hard exceleration and will back firer and push a three inch flame when you let off on it. It does have a hint of black smoke when you crack the throtel open and then clears up .So is it to rich or is the timing off a tad with the new ignition.this is moor notable warmeded up (200) degrees F other wise runs great maybe using waiter thow not shore yet.The compreshion when hot is 68 PSI on the left and 65 PSI on the right.my thoughts are timing or week vale spring what do you guys think. Had a G in my shop a few weeks ago, .125 pistons, that was it,, I put it on the dyno, it was too rich on the main jet adjustment. Turmed the load adjustment in, and it smoothed out. You also my need to regap your plugs,, I have been working on a lot of tractors lately, that the plug gap is causing a miss with electronic igntion. open the plug gap up with this type of igntion. thanks chad they are at 40k now but now have BIGER trouble their is a gallon of water missing and a milk shake in the pan. I bought this in April at an aution it had all new gasgets in it and the man said they put 70 rods in it over all a good tractor maybe its a head gasget or waiter tube. Oh well we will not be taken out for her first pull to day I hope the waiter did not goof a bearing up if so we might have to give it a little atitude if i have tear it a part thanks Howard

Check and see if someone put a long bolt in on your intake manifold. Not sure if this applies to the newer Deeres but we have a 36 B that someone did that and it pierced the water tube inthe head.
