Whats a good weight for My M?

Hi, I was wondering what a good weight is for pulling? I have 4 rear weights for my M, they weigh about 150lbs each. I dont know how much the tractor weighs. There is know fluid in the tires, I have brand new FIRESTONE field and road, 13.6-38 tires 45 deg. I have access to a scale. There is a pull at the steam show in aug, you pull for bragging rights, You know, the RED and green war. So whats a good weight to have it to beet the green? I have never pulled before.

My son pulls a Super M with two seets of wheel weights and no fluid and usually starts in the 6000 class. It still has the pump PTO hydraulics and everything. Bone stock and he goes up to 6500 (All the room we have to hang weights) and spins out way before running out of power. usually does pretty good depending on the track.

Ol M's are hard to hook up light, lets say 5000 in low gear, 5500, will just start a better balance, but also, the heavier they get, the better they pull, in low gear. In our club, even though it is percentage, the M,s pull right with the G JD, usually the M comes out on top distance wise. If you got a good running engine, I would not be afraid to go 6500 in low against those deeres. It would take about 250lbs at least on the front to help hold it down long enough. Just my 2 cents. I'll have to disagree with you on this one, my 39 farmall M pulls actually quite well in the 4500 and 5000, and at our fair this past yr i puller in the 4500 in first gear(usually pull in 2nd) hooked up and put in all 10 tractors(i think it was)in my class.....its all in the hitch,and tires

My uncle pulls a stock "M" at our local pull. It's been a year now but I think it weighs 6000 with one set of wheel weights. It's right off the farm, hydralics and all still on. 1st gear is all that tractor wants on our tracks, but he had it balanced right and took 3rd out of twenty some pullers last year. Beat my G, ha ha. He has new 14.9's on it. Scales are different sometimes too. I got to pull my John Deere D in the 6000 for the first time last year, scale said it wieghed 6050, always said at least 6250 other years. Guess it went on a diet over the winter.

We pull a stock M as well. One set of rear weights, no fluid. Has belly pump and belt pully gear box. With my oldest son we're weighing in about 5350 give or take. So we generlly pull in 5500 class about 120 feet or so, spins out, no loose of power. I would like to weigh it up to pull in 6000 or 6500 class. I think it would do a lot better... my 2 cents

Nope, I'm, from ontario. There is a steam show in aug, in Brigden Ontario. They have a pull every year, Last year there was a Jd D and a mccormick SW-6, The D won. I'll post the web sight for ya to look at

i'm not a farmall guy, but i would think with it and now wheel weights it would make the 5500....ask someone like ChadS or flyin farmall or wildman...

I know for sure that a Super M with 15.5 X 38's 90% filled with water/alky mix weighs 6860 with no weights. Just weighed mine last week. Tim
