Ok guys...one more time. What are opinions on the best lightweights around 1950? 2500-3000# Any other brands?

why not an oliver 66? i have 2 of them down to 2750. they are real competitive from there to 3500. we have 3.5 mph speed limit, 35 hp for 2750&3000. 40hp for 3500.

YOU MISSED THE BEST ONE FERGUSON TO-20 with a sherman trans will out pull any you posted and i got 26 1st. place wins to prove it. they are about 28 hp.

mopower its time to quit talking and start pullin, get one of those molines out and get it down to the track, if you spent as much time working on them as you do talkin about them you would have all of them pullin. see ya soon Pete In Marquette

We've got a VAC Case and a C Farmall running DivII type rules. I've also pulled a buddy's BF Moline.

Of those 3 the Case is balanced better below 3250lbs.

A "wartime" WC with a pressed steel rearend is
easy to get under 3000lbs. They are very good and
easy to increase the H.P. on.
Locally there is a super C IH that kicks #$% all the way to 4000lbs.
My 2 cents.....

Was told by a man that bought a steel WC rear and weighed it against the cast, that it was accually heavier. Everyone else tells me there lighter. Have you ever weighed one??

I have a wc with cast rear end, pulls 3000 class with cast wheels.

I put 40 feet on a WD-45 last sat. after he powered out in 3500. He was running 2nd or 3rd gear in unlimited speed super class, I was running in 2nd gear with my VAI case. The closest thing behind me was a ford and he was 11 feet back and he spun out. The fords are very tough in the lighter classes. The fords are taking over were the WC and WD used to dominate.

Come on CP, the Fords are getting better but I don't think they have caught a good hot AC yet. Yes they do win some times but that is because they are working harder but are not beating the AC's on a regular basis. The Fords are at a disadvantage because the aren't able to get the CID that the AC does.

Geb, the Fords are not coming on as quick at CATPA and DATPA as they are at others, like OTTPA. Give it time though. The Ford is a later design engine that runs more efficient then the WC, the stock rpm's is higher, and the transmissions are fast. I know the OTTPA sled does not take as much power to pull, and works more with spinning a tractor out, but there are 15 or 20 Fords at each pull. Give it a few more years and there will be allot of Fords winning. Don't get me wrong, I don't like them, and I would build a Fordson before I built a Ford, but there coming.

Yes I'm aware of the Fords at OTTPA but they aren't going to be as competive simply because of CID. I will agree given the same CID the Ford would have the advantage due to the RPMs. The Fords also have a gear problem unless they have spent some money on horsepower, the 5 speed is too slow and the 4 speed is too fast for most tracks. Again there are some Fords that do quite well. I'm certainly not anti Ford because that is what I grew up farming with and that is what is still used on our farms. When looking to get back into pulling (antique pulling) I looked at building a Ford but decided to go with the AC because I felt they had more potential.

I think that a C Farmall would be good in those classes, But those WC AC are hard to beat there too. Next choice would be a VAC Case,, Like Casepowers tractor,, LOL Would love to go see that one pull some time. Chad

Yes, the C-152 will bolt it,, there is a few things to do to fit it in the chassis, mostly putting in a pilot bearing on the crank, I built one for a neighbor like that, made 52 HP. Fun tractor,, alot of power for it too. The engines are in a 92, 102,203 IH combines I belive. from what I understand, they would go into the B too!! May be wrong bout that, but have heard it may. Also the radiator top hose has to be redone I used the C radiator, and welded a cast tube into it so the hose fits on it. Chads

Stongest 3000# tractor I've seen is a AC WC, or Farmall H. They'll get to 3000, but you have to work at it.

I know a WC and H are tough and can go real light, but I would not exactly classify them with a little Allis B, JD H, or Farmall BN in 2500. Even am MM R could arguably be a heavy machine compared to these tiny tots.

There's a Ferguson TO-30 that runs with us in Div. 1 & 2 on occasion that's a good horse. He can weight up on occasion and whip some guys at 3500+...
