Wanting to know if anyone has built one for pulling. I know they do not have a center main bearing so they cannot handle alot of stroke or compression. My questions are how do you get the power out of one and just how light can one be made. They are about 800lbs. lighter than the 820/830 tractors. Any and all info. will be helpful.

Hey Shotgun...somehow I knew you would post something about my poor little R!! 85-90hp is not too hard to get, after that it depends on your pockets...ie how deep they are. True they only have 2 mains, but such is life in the tractor pulling world...pull it till it breaks I always say..and then you have an excuse to buy something bigger and better. I would like to have seen that R that was 6500# with stock radiator and fenders still attached, I have weighed mine with a flatback, no pony motor, pressed steel wheels it weighed 7200 with me on it. I have seen one in 6500, but did not have the stock radiator, or hitch. Good luck

We have an 830 JD in the 6500lb. class in our area. It does not have hardly any aluminum on it. Weighs 6415lb. with driver. So I was hoping the R at almost 800lb. less would maybe be closer to 5500lb. Do you think an R with the possible 85-90hp would turn 15.5x38 tires in 2nd gear.

they dont' ahve a center main so are harder to get to hold together vs. the later diesels.

Have one in our club that has no problem making 6500lbs. No pony, no cast centers, and just about everything else you don't need taken off. Still has fenders and factory front end.

I have heard 7000 pound without the pony. They used a 3208 cat starter and made a bracket. Some use 720 pistons and injector tips. Pistons take you to 6.125.
