changeing gears

We are wanting to change our WD6 gears to slow it down. The JD creeper gears are killing us. I think we have as much power or close to it but with them low gears they just keep going. I believe an M has the same transmission but runs taller tires and goes about the same speed. That transmission in the WD6 and short tires should slow it down. My question. Is the difference in the trans or the final ratio in the rear?

So if you can put in the ring and pinion from the W series in the M, and H, to speed em up,, can you do the opposite use the M in the W series, would that slow down the W series tractor? Chad

If you do this, you are looking at tearing down the entire final drive assembly, axles and housings too. you will have to remove the top plate, then the bull gears and axles, then the brake assembly, then there is 2 bearing holders that are bolted into the rear end housing, they are shimmed, so keep them together, that will remove the pig, when you remove the 2 holders. the pinion shaft,, you will need to tear the top shaft out of the tranny, and replace it with the M shaft,, good time to check bearings and seals a this point... Hope this helps,,, ChadS

Yes, the w4 will fit in the H and speed it up like wise you can put an H ring and pinion in a w4 and slow them down. Same thing with the M and W6. Hope this helps Farmall

I don't remeber the ratio but there is a O-4 down here that has a different first gear , its tag extra low first gear, the rind and pinion is about like the difference in the oliver's.

I think the orchard tractors O-4 and O-6 did have a creeper low gear. About 1.5 MPH.
