I often compare similar tractors of different brands. I would like to know FROM THE FACTORY, which of the following similar size tractors would have been the best pullers. Did I leave any out? This should be interesting to see what people have to say.

Massey 44
Deere A
Moline U
Farmall M
Case DC (?)
Oliver 88

I think you should make a change to your list. I do not think the U belongs, it should be a UB. As far as the JD A, until they added the creeper gear it didn't have enough power in factory stock condition. For a work tractor from the factory I would give the nod to the 88. It came stock with indenpendant PTO, live hydraulics and the best seat suspension of the group.

If you want the tractor for pulling, any of them will perform quite well in warmed up condition.

I would say the the order would be
ollie 88
MMU
massy 44, then the JD A.
I often wanted to try a case L or a wd allis for pullin..may not be in the same "class" but is good canadates I believe.

If you want to get technical, a JD G is rated with the other tractors you have listed instead of the A.

Deutz PS 65, hands down best puller from the factory! Thats what i pull and it is stockbore stroke cam!! A whoppin 325 CI pulling ,competing with and even beating tractors with twice the cubes!!Only modification is more fuel, via fuel screw,no pump mods
These tractors do come from the factory with limited slip too.Although my personal preference is this sometimes hurts more than helps

My 2 cents ....Been on a missionary trip in the congo.

Welcome back Krout. I trust you are well after your trip and I hope you found what you were after. Did you happen to stop in South America on your way back? I got a whole truck load of those PS 65's {3} and hope to get a puller done soon. Later John

In pure stock form, Toot is correct. That creeper gear is nearly impossible to beat, particularly at heavier weights. That's why you see "A"s and "60"s pulling clear up to 10,000 pounds and more in dead weight pulls. Try that with any of the others.

If youre talking about the latest year models of each:

JD A (has creeper gear-will not run out of power)
Massey 44
Case DC
MM U
Oliver 88
IH M

I have had one of every thing you listed, and pulled them all in stock form. I cannot be convinced otherwise.

How about a plowing demonstration. Hitch them to a 3-14 plow and see how well they pull.

Ollie Puller 2;

No,I dont know which is best. I would favor the Massey 44 and the MM U. I have not operated a DC Case or A John Deere and never could figure out how to shift a Oliver. Well,ya,all have fun with your pulls.
