I have read what has been posted on the subject of govenor adjustment, and still have a few unanswered questions. First, if you change out your stock spring, what spring do you replace it with ? Second, once you have found the right spring, what is the highest RPM you can safely set your govenor at, that will not do damage to the engin ?

How fast are you allowed to run???? That is what you need to look at in my opinion. On an engine that has not been apart in 20 years, 10-15% over rpms max, fresh engines, 20-30% easily. Governor springs are kinda misunderstood on what they do, they just dont give you more rpm. they tune the governor, making it more sensitive, and respond faster. Did you know that with a stock spring,, under a hard pull, as the rpms drop, the governor shuts the carb down faster with the stock spring,, and the engine dies faster!!! Adjust the governor to the rules you are allowed, the response in the governor is not affected by the rpm limit, still works the same way. FASTER!! More lug when you need it, there is 2 other tips to do that will compliment a governor spring swap,, for a total of 3 things you can do to almost double the throttle response in the ol M engine. Wanna hear more??? ChadS

Is your spring stiffer or weaker than the stock spring?
