Cockshutt 40

I have a 230 gas and a 262 gas tore apart completely and i want to build one motor out of the two of them for my Cockshutt 40. I need to use the 230 block though. Will the head, crank, or cam out of the 262 work with the 230 block? I was just simply wondering what parts will interchange, thanks very much for the advice.

262 crank will bolt right up, 1/4" more stroke. you'll need to use the 262 cam too because it's notched out to clear the stroke, or notch your 230 cam. you may have to play mix and match to find a set of pistons that are the right height.

I'm not sure about the 230 gas.. but the diesels 230 blocks have the orings on the sleeves.. and the 262's have them in the block... the the 262 sleeves can be grooved and installed in the 230 block.. and then you can use the 262 pistons and crank.. you can use the 230 cam.. but as mentioned.. you will have to notch.. (or just use the 262 cam..)
There is room to go bigger.. with some work.. those blocks are just bad about cracking between the cylinders...

I read that the stroke was the same but the bore was differnt..... ..huh..u know where there is a junk 262 or one that is rebuildable? know someone who needs the motor.

Stock bore on a 230 is 3-7/16 and a 262 is 3-9/16 stock. The 230 can be over sized to 3-9/16 but I belive that the 262 doesn't have a oversize.

262 is a sleeved motor so you'd have to resleeve it to get the bigger bore. stock stroke on 232 is 4.125", 262 is 4.375".

Correct, but they are both sleeved engines. I know the 230 will go to 3-9/16. What I don't know is if the 262 can be bored past the 3-9/16 it came factory with, or if you can bore the block for bigger sleeves. The cranks swap out as long as you use the cam also. If he could find a 273 block would be best(3-3/4 stock, i've seen 4.0).
Then use the 262 crank, cam, head, intake, and carb.
