It does depend on what rules the club offers, but for a stocker H, 1st is about the only option on the pulling track, there is help here on this board to help you get a feel for the H, I pull 3 of them on a regular basis now that the season finally started up. LOL. ChadS

Usually. I've only been in stock antique pulls, and there's usually a speed limit enforced. Pulling the '38 G, I use 2nd. It's pretty light for its power, and will lose traction easily. With the speed limit, I can play with the throttle to keep it legal. Lugging down doesn't seem to bother it as much as the higher-revving 4 and 6 cylinder tractors, so I can give it a little more throttle as it gets down the track, and it has enough juice to pick up the pace. When it finally does start to break loose, I can give it full throttle and get another foot or two with the tires spinning.

With the others, particularly the 830, I use first and let it chug along. The safety officials are happy, and the tractors have enough traction to go down the track without as much fiddling around.
