M-M puller question

You guys pulling GBs out there have 9-bolt hubs? I was told that a one piece GB hub can be turned down and made to accept a 9-bolt sheet metal wheel. M&W are hard to come by and expensive. Does anyone do this hub work, and how much would it cost? What is the weight savings of sheet metal over 34" cast centers? Just considering for my GBD. Thanks!

You can use a side grinder but it takes a long time. Try drilling a bunch of holes first and then grind. Don't try holding the wheel up to bench grinder as the wheels are too heavy unless you are really strong.

Find you a pair of f30 farmall hubs same spline as your m m . Drill your 9 bolt pattern in them and you are on your way. they weigh around 25 pounds. hope this helps . docjoe

That is interesting. I am going to attempt to find some. Is an F-30 hub one piece? I have been meaning to try and find similar splines among tractors but have not made the junkyard trip yet to do any measuring.

The f30 hub is held on the axle by a big nut it has a 6 bolt pattern, just weld these shut and drill your 9 bolt pattern in them. this hub is a lot skinnier than your m m hub cut you a piece of heavy wall pipe for a spacer. later docjoe
