Petronix Ignition on an M

I just installed a Petronix ignition in my Farmall M. The modual and mounting plate went in as it was designed. I then installed the round magnet with the square center over the cam shaft. The problem I had was the magnet thickness was so great that I could not install the dust cover and rotor and distributer cap. Petronix said after they verified the correct part numbers that they never heard of such a problem and that the rotor must be wrong. I ground the top of the magnet down on the grinder to to reduce the thickness and it fit. The tractor started and ran well but I did not expect to grind or jury rig it. Did any one else have this problem or did I get the wrong magnet?

You no longer have points to keep the dust out of, SO YOU DON'T NEED THE DUSTCAP.

I have found some applications where the cap is shimmed away from the rotor by the dustcap, and there is not enough clearance without the dustcap. In those applications, I just neatly cut out the inner part of the dustcap to clear the Pertronix unit, leaving the outer ring to shim the cap away from the rotor.

I left the dust cover off mine too. Been running 5 years with no problems.

When I installed the one on my M Farmall I had to leave the dust cover off and it fit good

I installed one on my smta but if I remember right I did not reinstall the dust cover but did not have to grind anything. They may be right on the rotor, these tractors will except just about any size or make and run.
