Need more traction

I pull a stock 58; 340 in the 6500# class but keep spinning out long before I lose power. In an attempt to keep from spinning I slowly throttle down as the box moves up. I finish many pulls at almost a dead idle and still spin out. I am running in first gear T/A back. Tires are Firestone 23 degree 14.9 34's. I am running 8 psi. The tires are loaded and I have a fast hitch. The tractor is balance perfectly with the front end coming up 12-20 in. as the pull progresses. Any thing that may help?? I will thank all of you in advance and hope to see you here in central MI this summer.

Try using high torq.This puts more load on the engine and less power to the ground.From the sounds of it you are overpowering the track,this will also bring down the nose.

I pull an M and I had the same problem. The drawbar hitching point is the key factor. AC tractors like the WD & the WD45 have an ideal drawbar. Check one out and you will see that they have their belly hitch at exactly the optimal pulling point. That is what it takes. You must pull down on the tractor slightly ahead of the center of gravity. By redesigning my hitch to use the back drawbar only for support,
I have done much better.

If all else fails, move more weight to the front of the tractor and lengthen the drawbar. The more weight you can lift on the front end, the more pressure you've got on the rear tires ONCE THE FRONT END IS IN THE AIR. Ok, you can call me crazy, but it's physics.

ANY TIME YOUR HITCH POINT GOES DOWN YOU LOOSE TRACTION.I AGREE WITH 770 FRONT TIRES SHOULD JUST SKIM THE GROUND.

770's got the right answer. When your front end leaves the track, you lose hitch height and thus lose traction. Add some weights to keep the front wheels skimming the track surface. Hope this helps, Don

It's a hottly debated topic but I've had better results just keeping her full blast until she spins out. Bogged a couple of times after throttling back when the tires regained traction and engine rpm was too low to recover.

your front tires should just "skim" the track. try a little more weight up front.

I think 12-20" is a little on the high side. I would get a little more weight on the front and that should keep the drawbar up and help the traction. I like to see about 2-3" of lift on the front tires. Also are your tires cut/sharpened, and can you cut them?

No I cannot cut the tires. I am already running 500# on the front. I can ad about another 150# with rim weights. I will give that a try. I always assumed (yeah I know a bad word) that the higher the front end the more weight transfer to the rear tires. I will re-balance the old girl and try to keep the front end down some more. It is hard to do with this tractor. It is just so short it does not stay down for long. But boy can that old girl pull and put on a slow speed show. Thanks for the help and suggestions.
