What drives you guys into the sport, you pull
a skid down a dirt track and 10 seconds later
it's all over, even if you win the payout doesn't even cover the gas and time let alone all the money stuck into the tractor then people argue
over who is cheating, is this all worth it????

I love your sense of humor hitchwitch, my father has been pulling for years and growing up I never got into it, wasn't the girl thing. I own a
business and he wants me to sponser his hobby
so I just wanted some input from you boys so I can justify the expense, This seems to be one of the largest forums I've found, thanks!!

took the time to read all the comments.i agree with most of them.maybe take a look at your own favorite hobby and ask yourself why it is so much fun for you.then you will have the answer to your question.
for those of us that cannot go a season without a tractor pull under our belts,it's a way of getting the folks together and sharing some good times, showing off a little bit and seeing who has the best luck and skill at pulling.
like some of the people said, don't knock it until you try it.who knows you may just like it,and if you don't,you can't say you didn't try.it's really a matter of each to their own.

There is no doubt that you have some hobby. Everyone does. Our hobby is tractor pulling, or thats how it kinda starts out. Then it turns to an obsession. In all the sports I played in high school, nothing compares to the rush that I get when I hook up. My heart beats faster, I tense up and get a feeling of concentration to the point that I don't hear anything. Its the same with a lot of things. You have to experience it before you can understand it. And once you do it one time, you'll be hooked.

I had this response to a similar question from Anne about the tractor pulling craze several months ago. It explains a few things Kim:

Hello Anne. If I may, Id like to explain why antique tractor pulling is so treasured by its participants and spectators and why we are not crazy. There was a time in this country when farming was a means by which many people made a living. When an individual or family works the land and sees the direct results of his labor, he learns healthy appreciation of the land and its blessings. If you think about it, everything in life comes from the soil. Many of us believe that mankind itself was created from the dust. When farming progressed, freedom and American ingenuity from folks like John Deere and Henry Ford brought forth new tools to work the soil, available to folks across the country. Despite the hard work of the American farmer, a tractor was a large investment. A man had to know that the money he worked so hard to produce was going to buy his family a powerful machine that would give years of service and take years of abuse. My father spent thousands of hours starting at about age seven, tilling the soil on Grandpas first Moline tractor. Values learned from that style of life are passed from generation to generation. For some, the farm tractor represents the things that do not change with time. Many tractors of years ago still perform their functions of 60-70 years ago. A fella can take an old scarred tractor, restore it to its former glory and see the results of his own two hands as it comes back to life. With fewer and fewer farms, the sport of pulling has become a way in which these owners of history can come together and share their stories of the past, also giving new generations and non-farmers a chance to learn about history, working with their hands, creativity, learning, competition, and sportsmanship. I can say from personal experience, I have met some of the most creative, interesting, and wonderful people in this hobby as well as spend great time with my Grandfather and Dad doing what we love. Good friends, good times, and good fun are what its about. Anne, I hope I have been able to explain why it has become so popular and why it is more than just pulling weights back and forth. I would invite you to come pulling with me any time and youd see what the buzz is about. I can guarantee that you would have more friends than you did the day before. Like these old tractors, good things dont change, and good things last a lifetime.

Hey Kim, if you were my age and single, I'd ask you on a date, go pulling, and show you why it is so much fun. If you gave the throttle a shove on my old MM, you'd see why I like to pull. Us pullers swap stories, practice some good sportsmanship, eat some good food, and so on. I can gaurentee you'd have many more friends than you did the day before.

All thats been said AND watching a youngster 12 - 120 pull for the first time or a wife climb on the ole tractor and give it a try. There are so many good things going on that the few disagreements or "lies" don't really come in to the picture. In any sport there are those that must be best or try and tear everyone else down, they are by far the minority. Tractor pullers are great folks...north, south, east, west, or anywhere in the middle!

I agree with Brad. If you have never actually pulled before, give it a chance. That 10 seconds going down the track may be the most exciting 10 seconds of your life. It was for me. I had both front tires in the air for over 120' on my first pull. It was such an incredible rush it is hard to describe. And like everyone else has mentioned, all the other stuff before and after your pull makes it a complete package. When I come home from a pull, I am usually exhaust to the bone but the grin on my face says it all.

Kim;
I read what you wrote and thought about it for a second. As others stated, The largest portion of the joy in pulling is visiting with those who share the same interest. My adopted folks have friends that pull and its like going to a reunion each time we load up. Then there is the serious side. I pull antiques, but I have an uncle that pulls a Smoker Deere, and the rush of just listening to that animal wind up, and being a certified Engine head, that ranks right up there with the ultimate high. Had the privelege to meet some of the Smoker Semi Pullers and one put it best "Those moments that you are hooked up, building boost, and as you let the clutch out and pour that power to the dirt is like riding an electric chair!" I get emotional just watching it on TV. At the track, you couldn't give me superbowl tickets, unless the Steelers were there, to pass up one. Whether its a bunch of stock tractors, or the hottest Semi's and Smoker tractor's in the land, it is not for the money made or the fame, it is all for the love of the sport!
Respectfully I am
The Chief

It's the Thrill of Victory!
It's the Agony of Defeat!
It's the Feel of Power!
It's the Wind in Your Face!
It's the Dirt in Your Eyes!
It's the Lies that's Told!
It's the Beer that's Drank!
It's the Quality time Spent with family and friends!
It's something some people enjoy doing!
It's about having fun and a good time!
Maybe the other guy is right you wouldn't understand. One thing it is not. It's not about making money, anybody that tells you that they are telling you the biggest tractor pulling lie ever!

Kim - No disrespect intended but if you have to ask I don't think that you could understand. Give it a try. Go to a pull get involved, spend all Friday night getting ready for a Saturday pull. Go to the pull,do well or not, visit with friends old and new, make plans for the next pull and then maybe you will be able to answer you own question. Good Luck @ Best Regaurds

I'd say only about 25% of the fun is on the track... The rest is seeing friends and spending a day doing something everyone there wants to do.
