I am looking into getting a new tractor and i was wondering if someone on here ever pulled an 880 diesel or gas. I was at a pull just last weekend and an 880 diesel up their took 2nd in 6500 and i think 6th or 7th in 5500. And which tractor the gas or diesel would be the better puller? If any one thinks I should be looking towards a different tractor , please tell me which tractor would be good. i am looking to pull in the 5500-7500

Check the rules of where your going to pull. A lot of places are 57 and older here in Ohio. I have an 880 and most of the time have to pull in the Farm Stock class. At 6500# class that means JD 4020.

460's and 560's have the same problem. Some places won't let them pull. Depends on the area or club.

Personally I would look for either a 88 or a Super 88. They will get into any antique pull agewise and balance really good. A well tuned Farmall M or Super M will do well also as they balance alot like an Oliver. A M-M U does well also. I wouldn' go with a JD only because with the weight range you are looking at you would almost have to have an A and a G both or sink alot of money into one. Don't think I don't like the Deeres though,I really do, but unless your looking at sinking alot of money into something the others seem to me to be able to go to a wider weight range.

This is of course farm stock I am talking about here, if your going to an open class or Div 4 or 5 then the skies the limit and go for which color you like best! :)

PS.I am kinda partial to the Olivers but with my last name I don't really have a choice ! LOL!!!

One of the bad things about a 880 is its to new for some antique groups. If you were at Laotto last week the cut off year was 1959. Mike Gross, a ag. teacher for many years at Carroll H.S., Allen county Ind. ownes the tractor.
