Hi,

I live in the Netherlands (Europe). Mostly I go to the tractorpulling with my John Deere 6920. But since last January I own a 1974 row crop 6030.

Is this a good tractor to go to the pulling game? Has no differential lock and has new 20.8-38 duals. Have first to completed the restoring and then I will hook her to a dyno. So don't know her HP's yet.

Hope that some of you can give me any good advice.

Greetings Mark

I know of no pulls in Michigan that allow Duals.

Hi,

At this tractorpull, duals are "allowed". It's has classes for standard tractors. This means the same tractors as how they work in the field and on farms. No restrictions for turbo's, engine-size or what else. I only have to make sure that she's not to heavy and that she can't tip over.

Haven't driven a lot on her yet, but what you think would be a good gear to pull in? First, second or even third? The track is mostly a heavy clay one.

Greetings Mark

I think your Gearing will depend on the weight that you pull the tractor at.. but I would think that you would be in a higher gear than that... A 619cid engine is a bolt in replacement for the 531 that is in the 6030... Not sure about the HP.. but with just some pump adjustments well over 300hp should be very easy... (I've had 466's at that with just turning the screw on the pump.) With real pump, injector and turbo a lot of HP can be had... only down fall of the 6030 will be the lack of the 2 speed. but I think the CID will make up for most of it... Good Luck

Have to watch exhaust temps when cranking her up. Need EGT instrumentation upstream of the turbo and water injection downstream of the turbo.

Hi,

Thanks for your comments.

I'm going to keep her engine original. So the 6531 engine stays. And there will be no other turbo than the one she has. Might turn a bit on the screw of the fuelpump. But have to look how she acts with the dyno.
Other tractors in my class are:
JD 6900
Fendt 716
Fendt 715
JD 6810
New Holland TM165

But you think I should pull in 4th gear??

I would try 3rd depending on the track and weight. Embarassing to bog down instead of spinning out.

Thanks for the info.

The pulling game is on the 25 of July, so heaps of time left... When I went to the pull I will inform you on how it went. First have to make her running again. Still working on the paint...but nearly finished.

Greetings Mark
