How is the Ratio Weight to Pull Calculated at these kinds of pulls. I have seen these on RFD-TV in California. It is impressive that this type of pull allows all sizes of tractors to participate. It may not be the thing for the big pullers but it is nice to have something for everyone. The calculation uses the weight of the tractor and driver and the amount of weight, I think, of what the tractor ends up pulling. Thanks.

SO it stills boils down to the longest pull.

DAVE. THAT IS WHAT WE CALL PERCENTAGE PULLING. WE FIGURE THAT THE PAN WEIGHS 3250# THAT IS WHAT THE TRACTOR STARTS, WE HAVE RADAR THAT MEASURES THE DISTANCE THE WEIGHT BOX MOVES UP THE RAILS, WE FIGURE 83# ARE ADDED TO THE PAN FOR EVERY INCH THE BOX MOVES .

LETS SAY THE BOX MOVES 83 INCHES HERE IS THE FORMULA 85X 83 = 7055# + 3250 = 10,305 DEVIDED BY TRACTOR AND DRIVER 5000# SO

10305 DEVIDED BY 5000 = 206.1 PERCENT MAY NOT BE REALLY ACCURATE BUTTHE SAME FOR EVERY ONE TOM

Why not put a load cell between the pan and the frame so it is acurate for every one just take measurement when the sled is stopped.

Our club has used a load cell but it was located in the pull chain. Used the same scoring technique - (pull force divided by tractor weight = percent pulled) Scores average around 90%, a good score would be about 100%, best pulls were about 110%.

How are they getting 110%. 10+MPH wheel speeds on a clay power track with cut tires?

Tom, Sounds like a great way to make the pull open to all tractor sizes. I assume you still have weight classes and would need to add weight to transfer box for the larger classes. Has your club went exclusively to this type of pull? Or perhaps a mix types of pulls, percentage on one day and traditional on another day? Thanks for the discussion. Dave

Hey does anyone know of a sled owner who has one set up for percentage pulling in the West Tn area? We pull the old tried and true method of how much how far but the more I read about these percentage pulls the more interested I am in trying one.
