Hi, Would like to know if I can mill about a 100ths. off of a #8060 head for a Farmall M, and not run into any problems.

This is a working tractor, It will be used daily pulling plows, disk, loader work and such.

Instaling new sleeves and 4" pistons, "pop-up",
"firecraters" or whatever you choose to call them.

Just trying to get a little more HP out of it without causing any damage to a decent machine.

Thanks for any help nightstalker

I took a 1/2 inch off of a head and had no problems.

Yes, and no. The 8060 is an ok cyl head, but is famous for cracking around the water castings, and in the valve bowls. You may want to magnaflux the cyl head first, before you cut .100 off of it, if it has not been milled before, and is in good shape, yes .100 is fine, if it has been milled before, and is questionable, maybe go no more than .075. I would leave the head alone, and re jet the carb, that will be the most benificial change, without tearing it down, and like you said,,, messing up a good machine. OR find you a later model cyl head, like off a 400-450 tractor. Better casting. Just my opinion, ChadS
