I have a choice of 18.4 x 38 with the lugs 3/4 wore off or 15.5 x 38 radials (no rules against) about half wore off lugs. I pull in the 5-6,000# and 6-7,000# classes. The tractor has a creeper gear so power isn't an issue. Would appreciate any opinions as to which would be the better choice.

Just guessing that the 18.4X38's have double the square inches of tire on the ground verses the 15.5's.

Use the 18.4's on a 20" wide rim. You can move weight for less traction. But it's hard to get the 15.5 to hook as well as the 18.4. Sharpen them too if you can.

If you are going to pull the tractor light, say below 4500lb I would say go with the 15.5's. Under 4500lb, you will not have enough weight or pounds per square inch on your tires to make them get a good bite. More times than not the 18.4's will float where the 15.5's will dig. But if your are pulling 5000-up I would go for the 18.4's beacause you will have enough weight on the tires to make them hook. My 1.874 cents!
