M Farmall head gasket advice

I recently purchased an M Farmall. The block was bored to 4 1/2 inches, but the person put a factory head gasket on, that didn't match the bore. I need someone to tell me where I can get the right head gasket, and the correct bolt torque.

Hay Dave, is the motor sleeved? If so are they pressed in, welded or flanged sleeves? The top of the deck with sleeves is very flimsy and hard to seal if not built properly. Farmall

the motor has pressed in sleeves with flanges. explane the part about beeing built properly.

I have a 400 that I had shaved the head, that made 158-162# compression with a stock head gasket. I purchased a copper head gasket from Chad (who is on this discussion board alot..I think that his E-mail is [email protected]) My new compression reading are 178-182#. I haven't dyno'ed it yet. I'm sure that he can make the proper size for you.

did you have to deck the block before you put the gasket on ? how thick was the gasket and do your sleeves stick up past the rest of the head a few thousands?

The gaskets are .032 thick. on sleeved engines, that have a sleeve standout, needs to use a better sealer than copper coat spray. Gasket Works, GK-5 is the best I have found to seal up copper gaskets, with sleeves. it will get in the area that is held up by the sleeves, and seal it off. we tried coppercoat with sleeved engines, and it sealed for about an hour, then leaked water in the oil. The copper coat did not seal it. I got some GK-5, and used it, and it sealed it up. On blocks that have large bores, and no sleeves, it is easier to seal up head gaskets due to the sleeve stand out not being there. Chad
