I just picked up a set of M&W hubs for my M. I would like to modify them so they will not set the rims so wide and lose some weight in the process. This is what I was thinking.
The current outer U-bolt is about centered on the hub (lengthwise). Can I drill new holes outward from that for the other two U-bolts and cut off the end? Basically, modify it to look more like IH hubs. It should take about 3.5-4" off the length of the hub, plus put more strength closer to the wheel. Will this weaken the hub? Has anyone done this before?

Exactly what your talking about, I've done to mine. I've ran them, on and off, for 3 years with no problems. Its alot of work. But it works great.
