Will a lp head on a 450 farmall work with flat top pistons, or will it "ping" on regular 89oct pump gas? I do plow with this tractor some so I don't want to get the compression up there too high, that I can't run pump gas. Thanks for your help Dave

Check the compression on your 450, if it has flat tops now, should be around 110-140psi, the LP head may boost compression up to 160-170psi range, just by putting it on. 89 will run it fine under 200 psi of compression, 200 and over 93 octane and up. You should be OK. You will need to re jet the carb, or tune it on a dyno to make sure it is right the first time, before doing all the work, and then blow up in the field, due to improper fuel, and ignition settings. 200psi and over 93 octane is the starting point, 200 and less, 89 octane will run in the fields. Just my opinion. Chad

More bad advice from Chads.

Hey chads, tell him he needs a new $3 gov spring and you will sell him one for $30.

Whats your problem with Chads, his gov doesn't cost $30, and I don't know where you could find a gov. spring for$3 unless it used and broke. If you have 200 psi of compression like most 450 lp heads do, you will need at least 93 octane probably more. When you are farming turn back timing and when pulling get good gas and set timming at 28 to 32 deg.

Better look in McMaster Carr. They have the famous "chad governor spring under $8 for three. Ask denny jr how much his will cost.

Sure beats spending 300 or more on a new governor, when all that needs to be changed is the spring! Aint technology great? better than the ABC's you study in kindygarten.
