What gear to pull in?

This is the first time ive bin on this forum so i thought id check it out. I want to pull this summer with my 52 M, I was wondering what gear to pull in? I will have 2 wieights on each side. 145lbs each no fluid in tires. thanks for any help.

I started pulling a stock MM U at a few local pulls. 1st gear was all she could do with that tired old motor in 5500 pound class. But I learned that in a dead weight type class I could win a lot. A stone boat is the fun way to go for old stock tractors. A smart puller can beat a powerful puller.

Just remember, you want to get all that horsepower to the track. Before you worry about the gear, run her in 1st and get her balanced. That will make a bigger difference than the gear when it comes down to inches.

If you have never tractor pulled before, if your tractor is bone stock, you will want to be in "farm stock" or division 1 classes, which are 1st gear only classes. You don't have enough HP to pull any gear higher. If there are classes that allow higher gears, you won't have a chance against these tractors, but try it once anyway and get it out of your system! Good luck, remember safty first, and have fun!

Its just a pull at the annual steam show, so its for fun and bragging rights, you know the old red green show off. Thanks for the info.

If you're not worried about going fast and want to be somewhat competitive, I would pull in 1st.
