You stated a while back that you would perfer an U/S A vs. an Styled A for serious pulling and I was just wondering why. I have a styled A that I am thinking of working the motor for pulling and just wanting some experienced information. I had also thought of selling the A for a G, is that a dumb idea.
Thanks for any information

of course its all a matter of opinion, but I would use an U/S A because you can get it lighter, and get just as much power. Now for cement pulling, a LATE A would be nice since it has the slow low to slow down the tires after you get them hot. THe A vs. a G is also opinion and have argued countless times that an A is better because it can be built pretty dang good and compete with a G in a speed limit class. It takes a bit more money, but the A would be a better choice for any pulls that I have seen. If you don't have alot of money to work with, a G is a quick and easy source for power. We have a styled G with .090 ($350-$400) and a flat head($700 if you had to buy it, but it was on this tractor when we bought it....) and it used to run 70hp....and on a really good day 72 could be squeezed out of it. THe head has since cracked again due to putting regular gas into a high compression motor. Maybe someone on here can shed either a different or similar opinion, but I still believe an U/S A is the best choice in the pulling world....lol..
hope this rambling helped a little...a puller

Actually you can get an early styled A lighter than an unstyled....if you are really striping it that is. The styled hood lets you do some stuff without changing the outside appearence that much and you still use the same chassis. You can chuck the 120lb radiator for a little one off a car that weights >5 lbs. Besides the radiator weight, you lose some water weight too. Then you can chuck the whole pedestal and make a lightweight wide front end. A piece of sheetmetal can be formed to take the place of the pedestal in the center between the grills. Between those 2 things, you would be approaching 200 lbs. lighter. Granted, that is right off the frontend where you probably want it anyway, but you could stick the weight out farther.

you are right, but I didn't take into consideration all the "custom" aluminum parts, I was just thinking "strippin it" with your basic stuff....thanks for reminding me and also teaching me some of the stuff that I didn't know they did....lol....a puller
