can any one tell me what i need to do to my stock wd45 engine to make it competive at the tractor pulls

Depending on what class you are pulling I agree it will do well just stock. If it has the 45 motor in it, it will have great power to weight ratio just stock. If you are going to run DIV III or better type pulling you might want to consider some upgrades.... 175 allis cam and carburator will help for not much money, from there the sky is the limit. They can be made very big cubic inches for a light tractor but if you are going much over 300 CI you should go to a D-17 block.

I am considering doing more with a WC. What advantage does a D17 block give? Someone had recommended this to me.

The D-17 engine or Gleaner E has larger main bearings and the block itself is stronger.... especially the center main. That is the weak spot on the allis motors. If you aren't going big the WD and WD-45 block are both lighter.

Not to sound funny but "Fill it with Gas" and go have fun. Unless you are pulling against big money and big motors the WD45 is very competitive.
