What kind of engine would it take to pull 4th gear in the 8500# class? Everybody wants to sit here and run there pu#@y mouths about what can and cant be done . Lets here it? Tell me I would like to know. Ive never seen a G pull 4th gear in the 8500. Ive never seen any big 2 cylinder diesles pull that fast either. If it can be done id like to try it. Id like to try it with an 80 or 820 give me some ideas. Lets see what happens.Or we can lock Chads and 820puller in a room together and see who comes out untouched.

I don't see what you guys think you need to run in the Higher gear's. I've see plenty on guys win Open classes in low gear. Even seen a stock 560 beat out 4 Eastern Iowa Hot Farm tractors in an 8500# class. Let me tell you we had to throw a lot of weight on that 5500# to get her in there. Just about ran out of room.

I think you are seeing the Speed a G or 70 has in 1st Gear, at 2,500 RPM..!!!

Once I saw that speed, I was sure that was fast enough...!!

it would take a 7.75X11" motor with a good cam, rollor rockers, and a kansas head...that would get you 3rd gear on a HEavy power track, and 4th on a decent track and 5th on a sand trap with 15.5x38 tires....

ON A GOOD TRACK ? IT'S GONNA TAKE A GOOD 200HP . WILL NEED SOMETHING LIKE A BIG CID MOLINE POWERED OR SIMULAR TRACTOR IF YOU'R TALKING 12-14 MPH 4TH GEAR. JUST MY OPINION. TX, DR SR

It wouldn't take that big of a moline to run that....a good 6 cyl. will do taht easy....heck...I almost bought one with a hd 800 in it and some slight mods that ran ROAD GEAR (about 30mph) in the 5500 and 6000, and dropped to 4th up to the 9000 with 18.4x38 tires....my U will run 4th gear with 18x38's up to the 6500 when I get it done..still rounding up parts..lol...

I agree with Gman. You can only get just so much air thru a Supposedly Stock carb. any more and you ain't legal.

I'm not sure but I don't think these folks are talking about stock tractors. I have seen actualy stock G's and other colors choke out in those weight classes in 2nd gear. Naw I am thinking these people are talking about open classes were the money runs free and the rules on carbs and stuff are kinda gray:)

Hehe BTW I remember seeing a minature JD B with a briggs "pull" the sled all the way out. Now notice I never said that the sled wasn't helping which it most assuradly was but I did "see" it..LOL!!!!! !

Anything is possible with enough time and especially money. It would take monster cubes, and an intake system good enough to fill those big holes well. It doesn't do any good to have 1000 cubes if you can only flow enough air to fill 500 of them. I can't remember if it was on here or the JD board where somebody mentioned installing "70" reduction gears in a "G" to gear it down some. Maybe that's what the guy pulling in fourth did. Maybe his "fourth gear" is actually more like a "third gear plus". Going to smaller tires also lowers the effective gear ratio and improves pulling power up the point where you can keep them hooked up.
