How can I get rid of some weight in the front of my 1900? I've seen people make lighter checkerboard grills, but out of what? Can I replace the old wheatland solid axle with some 2x4 square tubing or will that hold the weight? Please help. Thanks, David

You can build it out of wood, sheet metal (steel or aluminum), plastic and fiberglass with or without a foam core. The easiest is probably one made of wood. There used to be someone who advertized in the "Puller" every winter that made fiberglass ones. I think they were around $350. Maybe someone has their old issues handy and can look it up.

Did you ever solve your rear wheel (10 bolt)/hub problem?

Well, the hubs is another story. I want to put weld on hubs (9 bolt) on the rear, but I haven't taken the old ones off to see if they are splined or tapered. Haven't quite figured that one out. I'll try to post a pic of my new project. Thanks for all the help! David

The late model 880s converted to fiberglass grills. Yes make a light weight front end.

Off of a 1900 I would say make a grill out of aluminum square tubing or something then if you want ot keep the kinda stock appearance and wide front get a rowcrop front end or a Swartchz? (Spelling). I am guessing you could go to a narrow front if you want,Being as most everything else that i can think of on the front of my 1800 is motor I am not sure what else you could do. Helium in the front tires maybe??? LOL! OH go with aluminum rims also that will get a little more weight off also.

Make it out of wood, seen it done, if you take the time they look really good, cant even tell if you're not looking for it.
