Since your asking about an H I`ll tell ya this a set of D3 cat dozer piston`s work well these pistons measure 3.900 and believe it or not the H sleeve`s will take this much bore! Have the crank stroked to 6.5 inches using farmall H rods. Weld the offset or crank end of farmall rod to your standard JD H wrist pin end, have bushing`s made for your wrist pin`s to fit the cat pistons. This gives you 155 c.i. and 30 to 33 hp, now getter done!

I would go with a 1936/37 B jd because more power can be achieved and can get in the 3000, where a H can get in the 2500....but the B can be made to 50+hp, where the H is a Great runnin one at 30....we have a JD H that hasn't ran in about 6-10 years, due to a freeze break in the block, that has stock stroke and some piston my dad put in it when I was little that was .125 over...and he told me he has had it up to 22hp....and then it started slipping the pto clutch....I will see if I can find a pic. and scan it and put it in the pictures...since I dont' know how to put them on the forum...

a JD B will be able to run more rpm's by the time you get the H stroked, the crank won't hold up to the same as factor rpm's since they were fairly hight in the begining. I guess alot depends on the compression ratio....good luck with the project and let me know how it turns out power wise and pulling wise...
