Some of his stuff is just repackaged Automotive Performance stuff (coils, etc.) Never have checked them against JEGS or some such, but I find his claims hard to swallow. CHADS & stroker are right just bolting on a carb or something will bump up the HP, you have to need it and tune it in. Putting a 1050 CFM carb doesn't add as much to a 351 as it does a 460.

In my opinion, on a modest div. 2 tractor, A "worked over" carburetor will only gain you on average 2 to 5 horse. 5 being on the very high side. You know the rule, If it sounds too good to be true..... ..... .

Most of his stuff, you have to modify to make it work if you can make it work to begin with. Matching the carbs to the engine is crutial to performance. Most bolt on parts may help, but only if it compliments all of the other parts in the engine. Just my 2 cents. Chad

right on chad! if they aren't working with one another, they usually won't help. most of these guys buy this stuff bolt it in and on and expect wonders. takes alot of time and trials to realy get one right. just another 5cents worth.

You guy are exactly right. It takes a lot of trial and error to get the most H.P. out of so called bolt on parts. I've worked 2 years on my 770 Oliver with the carb and intake to get it to pull 62 HP on the dyno. The cheapest HP increase i know of is your air. In the summer when the air is especially hot your tractor will usually pull less hp. What i've done to compensate for the tempreture is that i figured out how to make my are go through dry ice before it gets to the carb. The dry ice in the air box alonoe added almost 10 hp on the dyno. Thats my 2 cents worth.

My 770 also dyno's 62 horse..... After "playing with the carb" I increased 65 horse..... Very interesting.... You are correct though, make em breathe! A very way to "cheap HP".....

Yep! Northern Indiana had a few warm days last week, 55-65 degrees, and I was running my 460, it was set to run in the cold winter air, and the first 5 mins of running, it lost the plugs, fouled them out. It gets alot of fuel, those IH 6 cyl do drink fuel, anyway, I swaped out the plugs, (champion D-21) to the 4130 champion plug and readjusted the carb, it ran good, so then yesterday, temps back in the 30's I fired it up, and it was lean, way too lean, richend the fuel back up, and it ran perfectly. Air temp has alot to do with making power. Look at how Nitrous Oxide works. it shrinks the air molecues down so much, that you can add even more fuel, and when it explodes, the molecules expand, thus increasing cyl pressure tremendously. kinda like a turbo in a bottle, LOL. I was thinking of making a cold box, with a small LP tank, with a condensor, that would pull the air through a cold condensor, and drop air temps. most would not allow it,because they would think I was injecting it into the carb, LOL. Nitrous leaves the jets and enters the intake or ports at -127 degrees F, so it also cools the intake charge substantially, which is probably what you meant when you mentioned shrinking the air molecules. In addition, it also contains additional oxygen molecules, allowing you to burn more fuel. Adding nitrous with no extra fuel is an extremely quick way to reduce pistons to slag. It wants fuel to burn with so bad that as soon as it's exhausted the fuel supply, it starts going after other combustibles, such as aluminum pistons. Pure oxygen burns WAY to fast for use in an engine, so nitrogen is also present in nitrous to attenuate the ignition process. The result is good old laughing gas.

You are correct. On the drag strip, all of the super pro cars in this area are alcohol/nitrous burning cars. The alcohol can be run at such a high rate of flow you feed to it, that it compliments the amount of nitrous injected. Most who have used nitrous, and have burned them up, were not jetted right in the carb, or fuel injection to compensate for the lean out. Running the funny gas, you need a big carb to feed it, bigger is best in this case. I had a 150 shot on my old drag car, I admit, I fried it before the second pass. I built it again, used a stronger piston, and changed to titanium valves. I also went to a 1150 holley, and alcohol, After I got the carb dialed in, and used Klotz in the fuel, it worked very well with the Nitrous. My only guess why it worked better, and did not burn up, is because the alcohol burns at a very slow rate, but breaks down much better in the port when mixed with lots of air. thus increasing the amout of fuel to the air mixture charge. Dad, years back, pulled a 3020 jd, and injected lp into it. kinda the same use as nitrous, How cold is LP? ChadS

LP is not "cold". It is the same tempeture as the tank it is in. Another subject that Chad knows nothing about.

John is correct. Nitrous works best when kept at around 75 degrees to keep the pressure in the tank up, which is why they make bottle warmers. It's a compressed liquid until it enters the intake, at which point the pressure is released and it flashes to a gaseous state. It cools rapidly due to the "latent heat of evaporation". Propane and LPG do the same thing. Apparently this is a subject that you don't know anything about.

I will have to take up for CHAD. Nitrous is not cold in the bottle either. It is the same temp as the bottle. Now go out to your LP tank, crack open a valve to vent it, hold your hand in the stream of venting gas for 5 minutes and come back and tell us it is the same temp as the tank. I'll go ahead and dial 911 for you as ur hand will be frozen and not working.

I thought I smelled something bad in the air. Must be on spring break and on momma and daddy's computer again. Ever been burned by LP? it freezes your skin!! Same as nitrous. do you think that you can handle a nitrous bottle if it is -125 degrees? Nope. If ya don't belive me, just go crack open the valve on daddy's barbeque grill tank and stick your nose in it. Ya gonna learn something. Ever hear of a regulator freezing up? I did unhook the gas grill hose and opened the vavle. I put my hand in front of it and it did not freeze. Only lp vapor was coming out. Maybe you are the one that needs to learn something.

Hey chads, tell us about them magic LP tanks. They are uninsulated steel tanks with LP in them that is very cold. But the tank in not cold on the outside. How they do that??? Tell us all about how much you know about LP please.

Man, didn't know 3rd graders could use computers. Even if you had of slept through chemistry enough information would have slipped in to know better. After a long day, actually about and hour, of fish frying you will notice FROST on the outside of your LP tank and on the regulator. There is a reason for that. Ever notice the R134 or R12 in the bottle or tank is not cold? How can it possibly cool your mommie and daddy's car? You know LP would work in their AC but wouldn't exactly be safe. As a gas changes from liquid state to vapor state it cools. Simple laws of physics you might get into in a few years when high school comes along. Even regular old air that we breath will do that. If you have a tank of pressurized air and a small hole venting to the outside it will be cooler than the air in the tank. Ever noticed a blow gun gets cool after some time of blowing? Ever used one of those monkey suit coolers that plugs onto an air hose to supply cold air to your monkey suit or hood? Must be magic since there is no way hot air in a tank could possibly cool you! Again, they work on the expanding gas cools principle.

Back to the origianal question about LP. LP will help to COOL the incoming charge on a diesel tractor. LP works much like a turbo to diesel. The cooler charge helps as well as the expansion of the gas allows you to turn more fuel to the motor and burn it thus making more power. Now if you take that another step you can inject the LP ahead of the turbo and decrease the temp of the air out of the turbo alowing you to run more boost and more fuel. Another step would be to inject nitrous also. Neat thing about nitrous with a diesel is you don't have to add fuel. The purpose of the nitrous is to COOL the aircharge and add oxygen to better burn the fuel in the motor and to manage the exhaust temp. It is all about temp management.

If you think this is the ramblings of and idiot, then look one post up! LOL! Oops, another cheap shot. Go to your favorite search engine, whip in "LP diesel performance" and see if LP cools. Must be alot of us out there stupid or something! Seems you can buy kits just for that. Who would have thunk it! Chemistry was good for something afterall.

Excellent explanation. I have also read that somehow or another, propane acts as a catalyst in a diesel engine and allows more fuel to be burned. My friend injects propane in his pulling semi. It's nothing major, but makes around 900-hp in an otherwise pretty much stock 3406B Cat running "A"-model nozzles and burner tubes.

They make blankets for nitrous tanks. Why is that??? Could it be as the temp in the tank lowers the bottle gets cold? HUMMMM. Wonder if the valves ever freeze open and kill a few motors? Why would a tank at room temp suddenly get cold as the juice runs out? Miss Kindergarten teacher, can i go potty?
