JD A custom pistons

I was wondering if someone can help. I am looking to build a pulling tractor.
I was wondering where I can get 6.5" or 6.25" pistons. I want to keep them short so that I can use a 9" stroke.
If I need to get custom ones made, who can do these for me?

Have you considered 6.125 used aircraft pistons with a 9.25 or 9.375 stroke?

Joe, I just sent the drawings to Jahn's Pistons in Los Angles Ca. for a 9" stroker "A" with a power block. If you are running a power block just tell him to copy mine with the bore size that you want and have your bank card ready. Will run you in the neighborhood of $600.00 for two pistons and pins. These pistons will let you run a rod length of 14.125" His toll free number is: 1-800-225-0277. Good Luck! Dave W.

Thanks, What bore size are those? I am going to put it in a regular A block that has welded in sleaves. How high are these pistons and where are you setting the pins? What size pins are you going to put in? I appreciate all the help.

Joe, These pistons are for a Power-block and have a pointed top to reach up in closed end of PB to maintain compression ratio. They are 6.125 in diameter and have a CD (compression distance) of 2.375. I can get the CD down to 2.0 if you do not need a stepped or pointed end on the head end them. I use the stock 1.75 pin / diameter. I run the oil ring in the stock location below the pin. Able to do this by adding the 1/2 the amount of stroke to rod length. Example if I stoke an engine 2" lengthen the rod 1" and shorten the compression distance on piston 2". This keeps then oil ring and piston pin in the same original running location. Not all engines you can do this but I have many two cylinders this way. Makes some interesting piston designs!! Piston have two compression rings. This will get your brain thinking. WTW... Which style of head are Running with this PB... When the time comes I'll be using the 60 Head.. Just curious...

This one will have a Heisler. You will need more crown on piston to run your 60 head. It will work, just have to allow for the extra room in combustion chamber by altering piston height. DW

Just helping another fellow out with his project. The bad part is my son will have to pull against this "A" in the heavier classes that we pull in with his "B". It makes better stories when you can beat a bigger one anyway! Haven't been to any winter pulls other than the Thanksgiving pull at Princeton Ind. Would like to go but just to many things on my plate right now. The boy is looking forward to going to Sigourney Ia. pull. We usually go to that one and have a good time. (Less than 100 miles from home.) Good pull to go to. Would also like to go to Fruitland Missouri and really wanted to go, but cannot take the time to do it. Have a late model 1972 4020 doing a complete restoration on for one guy and a 4010 Super farm pulling tractor for another guy with the engine down that needs to be put back together besides all my own tractor and home projects to do. I won't be pulling this summer if I don't get some of them done!! Hope you don't have this much to do to keep you from pulling, People seem to forget that I work a full time job in town and this wrenching thing is just something a do for an extra buck! Maybe we will bump heads next winter somewhere. Take Care, Dave

I guess that is for the A powerblock I once saw the piston removed in a new format??? Picked U my new toy... have to get the other tractor finised first.. if it would quit raining I could get some Green on..... JDGnut

You know the program! I got allot of material bought for the deck all I am short now is time! Been raining here too kind of muddy and cold around the outside of the house. Too muddy to tolerate. DW
