Chads, where were you last weekend? All of us at Princeton were worried that you were going to show up and hammer us with the lethal combination of the H and the econo mod 460! Course I heard the B's from Iowa were thinking about coming too, probably scared you off! Anyhow, just wanted to check and make sure that everything was okay in fantasy farmall land.

I am sure that they did not miss me. Everything is fine here in Fantasy land, Anyway, had to work, all work and no play these days. Who won? Wheeler? Lemmons? Was there a Ol 66 running down there? He pulls 3500 3-4. Just curious. If you want to see the big H, or the 460H, heck come on over to the shop, or come to Laotto,In in April. It is an indoor facility, being put on by a great group of people!! P.S. It is WILDER, LOL!!!! Chad

That is a good question. I am all for it. Heck my ex wife pulled the H's, My sister and her family are very active in pulling, They have 2 pulling tractors of thier own. She is a very good driver!! My mother is active in tractor pulling,, She has 2 points championships under her belt for 3 years pulling. She also took 3rd place in a dead weight pull this summer. This is a sport for all. In a time where families are fragmenting, this is one way to make a bond in a family. To me, this is more than a farmers sport, this is a family sport as well, where all are welcome to get up on that antique tractor, and pull that sled, to have fun, and earn bragging rights!! Women in pulling? OH YES!!!! Nothing like a good looking lady pulling a RED FARMALL down the track!! Might bring a tear to a mans eye. Just my opinion, ChadS

Is there something wrong with women pulling? Some of us are pretty darn good, and we pull our own weight too, you know, hanging weights, changing hitch heights, loading and unloading, there is more to it than just driving down the track. Wanna go for the challange?

ChadS, which end do you use for the RPM rule, the H or the 460?

I am going to have to say,, 460 on the 460H. It is the rpm for the tractor it is portraying to be. On the H's they are set for 10% over for a H. I am not a fan of reving up an antique tractor. there is too much risk involed with an accident. I have ran Something Wilder at 2600 before, but,, There really was no advantage to it at the end of the pull for it, Sure it looked good, and was flying down the track, but the whole time I was pulling it, I was thinking to myself, when is the flywheel gonna break? So, after that, I keep it no more than 10%. I built the engine to run in that rpm range, and that is the best for it. Just my opinion, ChadS

Chad, I totally agree on pulling being anybody's game- when i was pulling my super M, I had the most HP of the group, but I spent the whole year getting balanced! Every track is different for traction vs. HP!! Some tracks there is the right amount of slippage to keep the front end manageable, and the next you could be on the wheelie bars for 2/3'rds of the track. I learned that in a hurry!! When I started pulling my 300 instead of the Super M, after they out-ruled me, (for 60HP as opposed to 55hp rule) I spent some time up and down the back lane of the farm with a chain between the 300 and under the front snow blade of the 766 (simulating a sled) just getting my balance right! Hey, it woks good!! Nobody could figure out how a stock 40 hp 300 could pull with an Oliver 77 or Massey 44! It was good fun, but they still could'nt figure it out... anyhoo, that was my big speech for the night, keep up the good work, FD

In the early days when I started pulling, we hooked up to a bigger tractor and rode the brakes of the big tractor to balance it. The first hook ever on Something Wilder, I thought I had it balanced out well, about 30 ft into the pull, front end was up, and kept on going up. So instead of shutting it down and clutching it, I opened the throttle, and it came down and full pulled the sled. I was running 3500, and was still a bit heavy to balance it out, so I dropped the drawbar down to 18 in, and it pulled beautifully. Actually, I don't run 20 in high drawbar on it, 18 works well for it, and 19 picks it up too soon. I made the mistake at Princeton last thanksgiving and ran 20 in, front end up too soon, and did not hook well, Well that is my story, and sticking to it, LOL Chad
