After having read the many postings regarding our pull, I felt it necessary to respond. My name is David LaPerle, and I am the chairperson for the Inverness,Fl Tractor Pull. We were pleasantly surprised by the great turnout of pullers. Due to this large turn-out,unfortunately we did have some problems that I would like to address. The first problem you may have encountered was the dust. As most pullers know the dust is virtually unavoidable in Florida. The land consists of some clay and but mostly sand, which produces a great deal of dust. We did the best we could to keep the track hard and not dusty, and at the same time keep the pull moving. Addtionally, we had a couple of delays - most of which occurred Friday night. This was largely due to the large turn out and some computer problems (which were addressed and fixed the following day.) As for stopping the pull early on Friday night(11:00pm), that was out of our control. We must adhere to the provisions of a local "Noise Ordinance" which requires us to stop by that time. Also, another reason for stopping early on Friday was it was getting cold! The temperature dropped to the low 30's, and to Floridians, 30 is COLD! (All our people who work the pull are volunteers, and we didn't feel as if we could ask them to work in such umcomfortable temperatures.) After reading a response from "Jim M." in which he refers to the Case 500 tractor, I feel as if I should address these concerns as well. I am the owner of the Case. Sorry, Jim, if I out-pulled you. I pulled in the 7500 Farm Stock and the 7500 Super Antiques. The way we pull is if you weigh UNDER 8500, you pull in the 7500 class. The Case 500 which I own weighs around 8350 to 8450, depending upon the scales. Also just to let you know, this tractor is so stock that it even has a cracked head on it! (I bought it in Montana and never touched it.) However, I am thinking about giving it an ouverhaul, so beware! I also pull a Farmall Super H in the 4500 Farm Stock and the 4500 which puts me in the 4500 class, as per the tech manual for NATPA - the weights on the Case 500 are 8128-8015. The HP is 63-81. This is all per NAPTA. Like most of us, I pull for the fun of it. If you want to send me your address, I'll be happy to send you my trophy. Should you decide not to come to our pull next year, we will ceratinly miss you. We anticipate a bigger and better pull as we learn from our past problems.
Sincerely,
David LaPerle

You know what...if all this stuff is true, and i'm sure most of it is, you tractor pulling club will not be very successful. Violating pulling rules, especially one like weight, is serious.
Lots of guys, including me spend a lot of time working on our tractors getting them just right.
Violating rules like that keeps us from seeing how good our tractors really compare to yours.
I would avoid Inverness if i encountered promlems like that, it is unexcuseable!!!

Let me get this right---your club allows 1000 lbs. over in the farm stock classes, but the only ones who know about the rule is club members??? Where else does your club have pulls and what other FLA. clubs use your rules? How long have you been using this 1000lbs. over rule. I don't pull with NATPA anymore and I really don't beleive I'll make the long haul down to FLA. either. If I get beat fair and square that's fine---I'll try to do better next time. BUT,to take unfair advantage like this just ain't right. What other rules are ya'll hiding? Hope your local only national pull does good in the years to come.

What a cocky response to a guy who supported your pull! You'll mail him your trophy? 7500 lbs class in 99.9999 % of the USA means 7500# or less, not 8499 lbs (if next class is 8500 lbs)! With your attitude, terrible tracks, poorly run event, Inverness will soon fail! The only thing you have going for you is the weather!

I HAVE BEN PLANNING TO COME TO FLORIDA NEXT YEAR. I HAVE A FREIND PULLING THEIR AND HAVING A GREAT TIME. I HAVE TWO PULLS EACH YEAR RUNNING TWO TRACKS WHITH VOLUNTEERS AS HELPERS AND I COULD NOT DO THIS WHITOUT THEM, THEY MAKE IT A VERY SUCCESSFULL PULL. I HELP AT SEVERAL OTHER PULLS WITCH HELPS ME SLAY IN LINE ON HOW ALL OF OUR LOCAL PULLS ARE RUN. AS FAR AS OUR WEIGHT CLASSES GO, WE CAN WEIGH UP TO ARE CLASS, LIKE 7500 BUT CAN NOT WEIGH OVER 7500 MUST STAY AT OR UNDER 7500. AS FOR THE SCALE PROBLEM I LIKE TO LOAD A LITTLE HEAVY AND REMOVE THE EXTRA WEIGHT OFF AT THE SCALES. PLUS ADJUST MY HITCH HEIGHT ON THE SCALES IF A APPOINTED SPOT IS NOT ASIGNED FOR THAT. CAN YOU HAVE AJUSTABLE TURN BUCKELS FOR THE AJUSTMENTS ON THE DRAWBARS? WE HAVE LOTS OFF TRACTORS COMMING TO ARE PULLS LIKE THAT IN OUR AREA. ALSO WOUL LIKE SOME CONTACT NAMES AND TELPHONE NUMBERS OF OUTER PULLS THANKS BILL

If the class has a maximun weight of 7500 pounds, that should be it. But, I understand how it is. In 2000 a group from NC went to the St Cloud pull. I was trying to get my tractor weighted for a class and crossed the scales the second time when an offical with the pull came and told me I had weighed enough and if I came to the scales once more before I pulled, he would ban me from pulling the remainder of the weekend. Well needless to say, we pulled that weekend and left never to return again. However, we had thought about going to Inverness or Zellwood, but this settles that. Another thing that happened in St Cloud was they disqualified a tractor for using their TA when the rules plainly stated that "TA's may be used". They "requalified" him after being shown what their own rules said.

I went last year, not this year because of the local rules. How convinient that the local tractors in the 7500 class could be shy of 8500 my on 50 pounds. Considering the scales it would be far more fair to put the 8450 tractor in 8500 than to let it pull 7500. That extra 1000 lbs makes it hard to beat with a tractor actually weighted for the class. Even complained about my all thread used to hold the factory weights on. Oh well, we like to travel around and will continue to do so as long as the local rules don't rule us out.

Sounds like you just conviently forgot to tell the other pullers the local rules. Come on, you know his adress, don't make him beg for it. We were planning on coming down from Ind. next year. Now that I find out Jim has a ledgit gripe, it makes me wonder if the same thing might happen to us.

Thanks for the response. I did not intend to offend anyone. My dad and I are only interested in having fun with our old CASE tractors and having a fair competition. Since the rules were a little different at your pull, we were unaware of how tractors were put into weight classes, but now we know. I'm looking forward to pull with you again. Thanks Jim

Hi Dave: I went to all 3 days of your pulls. I was in Florida from Michigan and I got very cold at 8:00 and went home. You have to start praying for warmer weather: I supervise a pull here in Michigan at our local fair and we pull with one machine for 4 hours a year. I can understand the problem with putting on an event like yours with 3 machines running especially when you are working with inexperienced vollunters. (wow) I talked with a lot of the guys there and they feel the same way. You and your crew did a great job. Very few off us would vollunter to ride the weight transfer machine,Roller, Graders, hook & judge at the full pull line as well as line up for three straight days. I felt sorry for the group that had the zellwood pull. It started out to be a fun day but the rain come along and spoiled both days.

I forgot one thing. Very few people remember the number of each tractor. It would be nice if you announced the type of the winning tractor in each class instead of the number.
