Here's the deal. I have a chance to buy(possibly)a H that has been setup to pull and was a strong one 15 or so years ago. I know you can't buy track or building experence(close)but with a little time and $$ it could be fun. Its complete with weights and brackets and it runs like a top!
Claims 80 to 90 hp. Haven't got a price yet.

I would buy it if it runs and looks like it has been gone through, I sold a few pullers and that is what the guys who bought them said, "I cant buy one, restore it and make it run this way for this money, If they are a solid unit, buy it and tweak or change things yourself, I know for me, I will never totally build one myself again. Yes restore stockers, but for bigger pulling than stock, they are usually worth the buy. Plus alot of the headaches are over with, most of the bugs have been worked out, Doing it this way is really cost efficient, say you buy an old M or ollie or JD, then unbolt all of it, re-do most of it, then build a big engine, you are getting the engine for nearly free, if you give yourself 5 bucks an hour.

Thanks for the input. I might have to sell off one of my small tractors to do this but if things go right it should be fun! Thanks Shaggy

If you got the time to build it then that might be better, otherwise if your short with time buy it. To build one you also want a pretty good shop.

Remember, you get what you pay for. Although if you have the money its no problem, building is sure a heck of a lot of fun. I know ChadS has to be having fun or he wouldn't have spent the time he has on his 460H

I Am having a blast!! You hit the nail on the head, The satifaction of building, is just as much fun as going down the track. That 460H is keeping me out of trouble, it is running pretty good, probably will end up rebuilding the engine soon, getting some oil burning. tired iron, but, that is more fun in the future, ChadS

Redman's right. It'd give you a good place to start. It's probably not up to date with rules or the latest and greatest in performance, but its better than building from scratch. After all the trouble I had getting this M going again, I swore I'd buy the next one or at least have it pro-built.

buy,it is normally cheaper plus you can make one change at a time to see if it helped or not.

Shaggy, there are a few things to possibly check on a tractor like this, before buying it, If it is possible to dyno it, and let him prove it is that strong, or run a compression test on all of the cyls to make sure you get what you pay for. Not saying it that it is not what he says, just make sure it is not misrepresented. Just my opinion, Chad

It has been my experience after 3 or 4 tractors, you can buy them cheaper than you can build them. Also depends on how many $$ you have to spend. My two cents worth.
