A while ago I posted a message about octane and compression and got some very good info. I heard a term I was not familiar with: PISTON ROCK. Could someone please explain this. The author was telling me how much to allow, but I was not sure what he was refering to, but I have a good idea. Anyone care to educate me?

To get the proper deck clearance/ i.e. piston to top of deck clearance/ using a depth guage you can get an average by measureing one side of the piston with out rings and measuring on the thrust side there is a low reading and a high reading. The average can be your deck clearance but you have to rock the piston back and forth to make sure you will not come up to high when the motor is running and the piston rocks over as it passes TDC.

Ok. Thanks TimC. That is what I was guessing.
