Wheel weights or not?

I know of pullers that use wheel weights on a regular basis and seem to kick butt, but I have some to tell me that you do not want any added weight to the axles, just pressed steel wheels as light as you can get em,and just add to the tractor somewhere else.It was said that you don't want no extra weight spinning because it takes away hp.I have also been told that it makes no difference because the back wheels are not spinning fast like a race car so the added weight won't hurt.I have also heard that the hubs and wheels need to be as close to the tractor as possible for added horsepower.Has anyone dynoed one to see if there is a difference?

As far as the wheels being narrow or wide, you can look at it a couple different ways. Wide setups allow some of the dirt to pass along side of the sled (depending on the sled skirts). A narrow setup is more suitable for tractors with a lot tire spin. A narrower setup will reduce the side to side motion when you get on a inconsistent track. Whether you are able to harness more hp with a narrower setup maybe a better way of looking at it. If you can keep the tractor from whipping back and forth, then the tractor will pull straighter and further.

Wheel weights vs suitcase debate is rather simple. If you can match the balance right with YOUR TRACTOR, then it doesn't matter how the weight is placed on the tractor.

However weight balance certainly is the fun part of the head scratching along with drawbar length, track conditions, tire pressure, tire styles, and human reactions. :^)

BTW Jack, how's the G running?
