anybody know whata Kansas head and block is for a unstyled A John Deere? Seen it in the green magazine and woundering what it is.

It's basically a reproduced power block, a little bigger. The head has larger ports and valves. It takes some awful cubes for those things to function properly. Had a head for an A but sold it. Just could not get it to run right with that large head. For what it's worth, they are a work of art!

BJ how big of an A were you trying to make the head work on??? His A blocks are 6.5 bore.. Was at his shop this summer and he had the 3 different styles of A blocks... I think that was his first batch of A blocks.. JDGnut

A "Jerry's" head is one and the same as a "Kansas" head, made by Jerry's Welding and Machine Shop, Wichita, Ks. Mike

I am building a 6 1/4 x 9 1/4 "A" now. I was planning on using a heisler head with over sized valves, port matched, polished, 3 angle valve grind. With costom made pistons it should have about 9 1/4 : 1 compression. Are there any pullers that have run this combo, then switched to a Jerry's head & manifold....did it help or not?

The heisler head is the way to go. You would have to have a bigger motor for the jerrys head to work

I haven't heard from anyone who was really satisfied with the A head from Jerry's. Many people say you have to have big cubes to make it work, but 600 ain't gonna even do it. Go with the Heisler, and your troubles are over. The Jerry's head for the G is a different story, had one on a slightly over stock G and worked fine. I am talking about .125 overbore is all. I had better luck not using the sparkplugs in the head. But, try it for yourself, maybe I missed something, nut I am satisfied now.
