JD 50 liquid weight situation....

I use my 50 for mainly work. Id like to pull in the 5000# and 6000# classes in my local area. I have antifreeze in the rear tires right now. I do have 2 sets of rear wheel weights for this tractor. Should I drain the antifreeze to lower the tractor weight so I can reach the 5000# class? I can use the rear weights I have when I work the tractor. I also have a few IH suitcase weights. Thank you for any input. --Tye

For a 50 doing field work it is already lots heavy without extra ballast. An over ballasted machine wastes fuel and power just to haul it's oversized butt over the field instead of doing work. Plus the extra drive train wear and soil compaction. Tire and tractor engineers have found working speeds for 3 to 5mph on bias tires is ideal. Thats 3rd and 4th gear at 80% rated power and full rated rpm. The tractor should have 65% of it's weight on the rear wheels when parked. The tractor should weight 115 to 145lbs per pto HP.

Never been a fan of fluid weight. Most around here are full of calcium cloride, like they spray on rock roads. My brother hauls it. Nasty stuff. Main cause for the high price of good rims. I'd drain it. Especially if you have the wheel weights.
