I believe this is a picture of the late Kimber Wilsons light SS 460 IH puller out of Smithfield,Illinois. The first time I saw Kimber pull was in 1969 and he was pulling a Wards tractor.

Sometime in the early 70's he built a pair of 460 IH pullers and pulled them for years.I think I took this picture in the early-mid 1970's at Bethany,MO.Kimber pulled the NTPA circuit some and came over to Missouri from time to time. His tractors always ran good.

This was in the early days of turbocharging when everyone ran carbs.

That looks like a mean ride!! Looks like he was running a 4 bbl downdraft carb, and mixing the air fuel through the prop of the turbo. Using the vacuum off of the turbo to run the carb. Right? I am seriously considering Charging the 460H, but in stead of running off of the vacuum of the turbo, I want to pressurize the carb. Would that sound possible? Thanks for the photo!! ChadS

Chad, I'm in to turbo Buicks as I have a 1985 and 1986 T-Type Buick Regals that have the same engines as the famous Grand Nationals.Every year I go to a Ford-Buick Shootout down in Oklahoma.

Every year theres a Ford Fairmont there from Dallas,TX running a twin turbo 302 V-8 blowing thru a big pressureized Holley 4 BBl.This car is very streetable and runs 9.90's at 140 mph in the 1/4th mile.It carries the left front wheel for ever.If it works this good on a drag car it should work on a tractor.

I had a turbo mustang svo about 2 years ago, I had pulled out the 4 cyl turbo, and built a 351 with a paxon charger on it. It was fuel injected, and I used the fuel injection system off of the truck engines, they had a tall air plenum, and twin inlets. I used to be heavy into drag racing until the pulling bug finally grabed a firm hold on me,, LOL Sold the car and been playing with tractors solidly ever since. I love the fact that you like the 56 series tractors. I have a late 856, and a 826 the 826 has a blown engine, but the 856 has the 407DT in it, very strong workhorse. I had let my uncle borrow the 856 last fall, and it had broken a bull gear or a pinion shaft I belive. Have not tore into it yet. We have a huge pull in Goshen IN every year, and they have the ATPA in there, and have a farm class, just about anything and any type of pulling you could imagine to see is there. I have often thought that the ol 856 would look good with a big black tornado coming out of the stack!! My friend has a 87 grand national, with twin turbo chargers on it. He took me for a ride in it last summer, it has a sign on the dash, in front of the passenger seat, "Sit down, Buckle up, and hang on, because this aint no hay ride!!" Boys and their toys.. Chad

Yes this was Kimber Wilsons tractor. Before that it was Val Leefers from Carlinville Il. I called Val and he said it was his old tractor. He could tell by the seat bracket. He also said the turbo was a 4LE. Scott

Yes you can pressurize the carb. See the Vortech supercharger site and look at their carb enclosure. It is a pretty nice piece and they also show what else is needed for a pressurized set-up. A set-up like this is easier to tune because of the fuel pressure compensation during different levels of boost pressure. If you put the carb in front of the turbo you have to make it real rich under no/low boost conditions so that it is not too lean once you build higher boost. Another plus with the pressurized set-up is that the gas mixture is not slowing the turbo down (higher turbo efficiency). If you use the Vortech set-up as a guide you should be in good shape.

Build a sealed box around the carb use a cable to run the throttle, fuel pump to over come the boost pressure. Its being used on marine applications carburated.

I've been told that when you pressurize the carb, it's a bit more challenging to tune...but then, it looks like you're already working on a challenge to begin with (lol)!!!
