Two tractors on one sled???

I have only been pullijng for about 8 years so I am sure I haven't seen it all but.....I got a flier today from the boys out in Sterling, Colorado inviting me the the NATPA pull this month. They are having a fun pull on Friday night where you pay your money into the pot and draw names for teams. Each team has two tractors and they have what they call a "Double Tree Pull" where both tractors are pulling the sled at the same time!!!! Anyone ever see this before? How do they hook the tractors?

About 6 years back saw a couple of tandem hitch classes up near Ottawa Ontario. The tractors were stock and to make it interesting the two tractors had to have at least 10 HP difference in rating (Nebraska).

Hey! These seem like all transfer type pulls. I've done them. They are alot of fun. Fun when mix breeds. I pulled SMTA with JD A. Need to find right gears.

Our club here We pulled double tree with a dead sled (Concrete barrels on steel plate). Now this you really need to be good at starting together. Its a blast. Good luck pulling

Has any body done this kind of pulling?????

Watched a Farmall M and a Deere G simply mop up on the competition at one of those pulls once! Lots of comments when they hooked to the sled that it wasn't gonna work well, but it was superb!

We have such a thing down to New Haven, Indiana. I hooked my Oliver 88, and my dad's Farmall M, and we pulled a combined weight of 12,000. It's fun to pull in it, but it is very difficult to judge the other tractor. They start slipping, you have to slow down, but as I have learned, if you slow down to much, they will pull you up onto the sled, lol!

Jerry if this works, you will be able to see how the setup works. It's not a speed or HP thing, but alot of fun to compete in. As in this pic the AR should have been in 2nd gear, as the D is at idle to stay even. The best pull of the year was a JD G and a JD 70D doing the only full pull. Get in it and hope we get paired up, but it is the luck of the draw that does the pairing.

i thought it looked a little scary at first. tried it this last year. it was chalenging and alot of fun. you have to be smooth and quick with reflexs. and alot of trust in your partner. but it is fun just be careful and don't get in a hurry.

They hook them just like a team of horses, side by side, on a large evener, usually there is always a pretty slow speed limit, and the tractors are spread safely apart from one another. When done right, it is just as safe as any other form of pulling.

I read the same add and then talked to some people about it. What happens if 3500 lb. tractor teams up with 8500 lb. tractor. Sounds like something to watch but not enter. Hope the insurance boys aren't out to watch friday night fun pull.

There are weight classes for double tree classes just like regular classes. You could match up a 3500lb tractor with an 8500 lb tractor, but it won't work too good! Usually the classes don't go much over 7000 pounds because an average antique sled has a hard time stopping it.

There is a real art to pulling these classes - staying even with your partner, and staying square to the hook point with moth tractors. If you're good, you can go from side to side with your partner to aviod wet or loose spots on each side of the track as needed - you just have to plan it out in advance. If you know what you're doing, it is just as much fun as open class pulling, and takes a lot more smarts.

Ive done this several times. The chain coming from the sled is hooked to a 8 foot beam (may be longer or shorter Im not sure),then two more chains are hooked on each end of that beam .These are what the tractors are hooked to.The key is to take off and stop at the same time without giving your partner whiplash. Good luck with it alot of clubs wont do it anymore because of the dangers. Its real easy to get tangled up even more so if theres no speed limit.
