JD LP Dist... Advantages???

I know why these distributors were used on the LP tractors.. and I know what they changed.. (the speed is reduced by 1/2) But what is the advantage on the pulling tractors??? Just curious..... JDGnut

Well.. so far what I was expecting.. I knew why they slowed them down.. so they didn't have any chance of igniting any fuel or fumes that could be left in the chamber.. A lot of the new engines have one coil for each cylinder.. but hard to see how it could really be wasting the engery in the coil... If they can run a Top Fuel car at 10,000 rpms... I should be OK at a little over 1000.. or 2000 if I don't have the LP dist... I have one of each.. might sell the LP, just for the $$$... Thanks..

I think that is right, the lp was a lot more likey to ignite if any remained in the combustion area on an lp, and they look cool, but I really dont see any advantage when guys are getting cams made to specifically open and close at different times than a stock cam, so its really just a gimmick, if they made hp, all JD pullers would have them. It is hard to beat a good distributor, that has a good working advance, hot mags are probably the same as an lp distributor. my 2 cents.

JDGnut..wifes car has 3 coils for 6 cylinders so it fires each time the piston is at tdc..if it would help i think chevy would have an individual coil on each piston..lynn

They were used on LP tractors to fire only on the powerstroke where the gas tractors fired on the exhaust stroke too which could explode.
Theory is on a puller you don't waste ignition power and the possibility of backfire on exhaust and lose power.I don't think I noticed any gain on my G.

I had one and took it off I didnt see any advantage to it,other than being able to say I had one.Didnt make any difference in HP so I wouldnt waste my money on it.

1 turns half the speed so it will not fire on the ext stroke
2. the lp dist advance is 14 deg compared to the reg dist at 26 deg 3. to set up a regalar dist you will have to have a dist machine to set the curve and advance to what ever you want it to run on your tractor.
4. I do my own dist got tired of a nother person , doing dist and taking there hard earned money. have a nice day
