I have heard that some say advancing the cam one tooth on a U will help the power. Does this work on a stock 283 or bigger motors. How do you go about doing it, is it a big job?

I have done this to my '47 UTU with a KEF engine. I think the tractor idles alot smoother and has a little more bottom end. But while traveling down the road at wide open throtle the tractor seems to be laboring. I will be putting the cam back on time or replacing it with one from a 670. Also the tractor wants to detonate even with the basic timing at TDC.
Then again maybe I just need to play with her some more. I used to run the timing at TDC before the cam timing change even though the book says 7 degrees ATC. I get more power at TDC.
