Which A frame is lighter??? The stamped Steel or the Angle Iron shaped... And are they interchangable??? Lining up the next project.... JDGnut

The cast frame as used on A's prior to 584,000 (AA2222R) is listed as weighing 192.40lbs in the MPI, and the later pressed steel frame (AA5573R)weighs 149.00lbs. However, the main case used cast frame (A2644R) only weighs 442.00lbs, where the one for the pressed frame (A4000R) weighs 517.40lbs. Just by looking at pictures, it appears the steel frame has bolts higher on the main case than the cast one, but a cutting torch, welding machine, and some JB Weld can make almost anything fit. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info... I have the early case.. (1940).. and I have a few different frames.. Just haven't looked closely at how they bolt.. Thanks

ya, the pressed steel frame is lighter, no doubt about it, make sure your old block will bolt into the new frame ok, be careful of cutting, you dont wanna weeken the wrong areas of the tractor, it could cause problems later down the road
