I am wanting to pull a 70d in the Super Farm 5500#, 6500# and maybe the 7500# classes. I know I can get one that light. My question has to do with power to gear ratio. I would like to be able to use second in the 5500# if I needed or wanted to. I do not want a fortune wrapped up in the tractor. Any help will be appriciated.

Thanks

Richard, you need to talk to Bob from Triple G Service(John Deere parts / salvage yard). He bought a lightened up John Deere 830 from somewhere in PA ,and spent the last year or so making it lighter and doing a lot of engine work and fuel system work .It now weights 6,350 lbs.with a driver ,and I know at the NY JohnDeere Expo last summer he ran Forth gear in the 7,500 lb. modified class. I'm sure he would be helpful. The phone number there is 1-888-720-0830.

I was being serious. The idea of the 70 was to get rid of the creeper gear.

Unless you go with pressed steel wheels you won't be able to get much less than 6500lb.Second gear is gonna be tough to handle on a 70 cause 1st is fairly fast by itself.Takes a lot of hp to run a 70 in second gear short of stroking it $$$$$$.Good luck to you,Jack(TN).

A 70D will pull just fine in second gear at 2.5 mph. 1st gear is much slower. A 70G uses the same gearing as a G.

The 70d has the same gearing as the 70g. First gear is 2.5 mph. and second is 3.5 mph.

A 70d has a slower 1st gear than a 70g . Check yourself.

Both the 70 gas and 70 diesel have the fast 2.5mph 1st gear.
