Questions about 460 engine swap

Does anybody know if a 361 IH diesel can be easily fit into a 460 chassis? What about 301 gas engine? Or 310 diesel?

Thanks ChadS and EJ. Sounds like I should go with the 560 chassis for an easier conversion. I think either the 361 or the 407 would be excellent choices. Should be able to make around 200hp pretty easy. Thanks for your help.

The 361 and the 407 are the same outside apperence engine,, You will have a big problem with the flywheel. The 460 has a smaller flywheel, it resembles the H. If the late 460 has the bigger flywheel like the 560 did,, then yes, you could,, I don't know if the 560 bellhousing will fit the 460 rearend,, Bolt pattern may be bigger. Later models may have the same rear end as the 560,, Hope this helps some,,, ChadS

Chad, all 460 had the small rear end like a 350.
Some of the 460's had larger axles like an M or 560. They called that a "Heavy Tillage package." The bell housing from a 560 wont bolt to a 460.
That would be like bolting a M to an H.

A few guys around here are putting 414 in 560s the 407 would work too.The 301 would be a direct bolt in the 460.IF you can use the motor plate and flywheel off a 460 on to a 361 or others it probaly will work.Would need a double disk clutch to hold the power.If you use the 301 you will still need to use the cast iron filter base and change the by pass on it.
