Dan,, Here is a combo that will do you some justice. Let's first start with the short block, 1 in stroke will be fine,, You could bore the block or not. You would have to change pistons though,, The stock 350 pistons could work,, but you would have to cut them down. I would recommend a 560 LP piston,, And relocate the wrist pin location on the stock rod. I belive there is a 3-3/4 bore avaliable for the 560,, You would not have to cut the pistons much,, You can use stock rods,, Some grinding is required on the rods,, block, and machine the cam between the lobes so the rods will clear,, it is not much so don't panic. Most work is done to the rods and block,, If you like, I will email you a pic of a H block that has been clearenced. The head.. any 8043D casting will be fine,, You find them on late H's - 350.. You should already have one if your engine is a 350. Just watch the piston/head clearences,, you may have to machine the tops of the pistons down to clear the head. Carbs,,, I would run the stock carb on it,, off the 350,, just open up the main jet, and the metering stem holes a few sizes bigger,, You must be able to make the engine sputter or be too rich in order for the carb to work for any air temp or whatever. The SH-450 venturi works great,, there is 4 sizes between the SH-450,, I use a 450.. Works the best. Run a good quality fuel,, to aviod detonation,, an engine like this with a 3-3/4 and 5-1/4 stroke can range from 55 to 64 hp,, Depending on compression pressure. I hope this helps a little,, My email address is [email protected],, I would be more than happy to discuss this further if you like,, ChadS
