How thick is everyone making their weld-on hubs?I was thinking of using 1"-does this sound allright? It is for a 7,000 lb tractor.

I use 1/2" thick weld-on hubs in the 4500 to 6500 classes. They work well. Make sure the clubs and classes you pull in allow them. When welding be sure to wrap wet rags around seal area to prevent overheating them. Use four gussets on each plate to reinforce them. Be sure to weld both gussets and plate on both sides with good penatration. Use 70,000+ rod and you will never brake them loose.

What about if something breaks in the final drive and you have a weld on hub? Seems like you will have to cut it off to make repairs. Just posing the question.

It depends on the tractor.. on a JD.. the only thing that installs from the outside is the felt seal and ring... and with some work I think you can work it ovr the sealing collar... All the bearings go on the axle from the inside out... JDGnut

Farmalls are not so easy. The inner bearing comes off from the end of the axle opposite of the hub. The outer bearing must be slid off of the axle past where the hub would be welded on. Seals are the same way. Thanks for the information JDnut.
