Just like putting a brick in your bathroom stool tank to displace the water. Takes up space.---deadeye

I'll admit I'm not much of a puller and I don't know much, but this has got my curiousity...Why would someone put foam in their rear end? Obviously not for weight?

Thanks

It is to save weight. Gear oil is kinda heavy, so the foam is used to displace the oil in the open areas. The oil can be up to the proper level while using less.

The foam is put in the rearend to fill space so that you can put less oil in and still keep the gears in an oil bath. The foam weighs less than the oil that would otherwise be there, which allows making lower weight classes.

The foam is the expanding type you can buy at any stores that sell home improvement products. Wal Mart, Lowes, ect.It will stick to any clean, dry surface. Apply, let it expand & dry then trim out any excess.

A couple of good plastic jugs that you can close glued to the bottom of the rear works well also - I have seen foam come apart .
