Hey fellas. My motors run just a notch above stock RPMs. What is your opinion on how high one can rev before balancing a motor becomes a factor. I'm sure different motors require different steps, so I'd like to hear what you think. I'm a MM guy myself. Enlighten me to the subject of balancing.

If its stock you probably wouldn't have a problem.

Any time you change rods/pistons the motor is out of balance. However inline 4 where the throws are oppsite each other do not require bob weights.

A straight six or v8 requires bob weights to similate the weight of the rods and pistons which are rotating on different degrees, ie they are not 180 degrees out from each other. They are 120 degrees out.

The inline 4s require balancing the crank by itself. If nothing has been done to it then it is not that important. You do take the lightest rod and piston combination and weigh it then lighten all the other combinations until they are the same. Balancing helps reduce harmonic vibrations and unequal weights which wear things faster.
There are probably a lot of unbalanced motors out there that run just fine and last a long time but I wouldn't build one without having it balanced.
Probably didn't answer your question but maybe this was some help.
Thats the way I understand it FWIW.
