Still deciding on what to do to Farmall H (long)

Over the past few months, I've read probably hundreds of posts about how to build an H Farmall to pull, from mild to "Something Wilder" (forgive me, ChadS...couldn't resist!). What I want to do is to build something that will look nearly stock, but won't cost an arm and a leg to maintain after I build it; something that I can pull a 5 or 6 foot rotary mower ("bush hog," but not necessarily their brand) without overheating all the time or worrying about blowing it up.

I understand basic engine building theory; I grew up working in a Farmall garage, although I mostly worked on the parts department side unless they needed another pair of hands in the garage. I know that, if you want to build low-end torque, long stroke is the key. I also understand that reducing friction improves efficiency, and that sometimes increasing the stroke requires clearancing the block, cam, and other items.

So I guess what I'm saying is...I need to know who YOU recommend as a source for stroker cranks for an H (contact information, too, please;) high-lift rocker arms (whether or not they're needle bearing and roller tip, I still would like to know whyere to get them, and what ratios they are, vs, stock), and whatever tech info on pistons/rods/pin bushings you can offer.

Am I asking too much? I dunno. I just want a useable H, but one that I can take to the local county fair tractor pull and not be ashamed of what it does there. I'm not wanting to go pro as a puller, and I'm not wanting to just stay pure stock, either. I guess what I'm saying is, I want to do to MY Farmall H what dad and grand-dad used to do for their customers, back when M&W made all the "good stuff" for the Farmalls. These guys could farm all week, then come to the fair and pull on Saturday and go home proud, win or lose, because they made a good showing.

So...anybody willing to share some sources? Or am I asking for something crazy here? And I don't care if you pull red, green, orange, yellow, or whatever, as long as you tell me some reliable suppliers to work with (I've heard about Denny's, even long before I ever came to this website).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Get a John Deere A and you won`t need to go to all that trouble with a Farmall.

Sorry, but I prefer something a bit more modern that a two-cylinder...something about my NOT LIKING the sound of an older Deere...and the fact that I ALREADY HAVE the Farmall. Since I wasn't telling anybody to get a different brand of tractor, I don't appreciate anyone else telling me to do that. Sounds like you're trying to start problems, rather than trying to help out...but I'm starting to expect a lot of that on this board.

I guess what I'm saying is...if you can't give me any CONSTRUCTIVE advice--and I don't consider the ideas of changing brands to be constructive, since I never told YOU to do that--then STAY OUT OF THE WAY and let me find out what somebody else might have to say that could possibly be helpful.

Jim Simpkins Machine

Can do anything in house except grind cams.
Any work done will be of the highest caliber work you will ever see. He is not expensive as compaired to other shops but he is coverd up so complete engines would be a wait but single pieces can be turned around quicker.

Located in Tn. Can email you phone number.
